WhatsApp will stop working on BlackBerry and Windows Phone on December 31
The most popular messaging service WhatsApp will stop working on BlackBerry OS 10 and Windows Phone 8 from December 31 this year. The messaging app will drop support for BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8 and older platform from December 31, 2017. WhatsApp says users these particular platforms will not be able to create new accounts, no re-verify exciting accounts once the company support ends.
WhatsApp first announced about these outdated mobile platforms in the year 2016. It said that it will end support for these mobile platforms. However, it later updated its blog stating that it extended its deadline to June 30, 2017. This deadline further updates to December 30, 2017. Less than a week from now.
Ending support for BlackBerry and Windows Phone has been no further extensions and will come into place on the mentioned date. If your phone has any of the two specified operating systems, you should consider upgrading to a newer phone in order to access WhatsApp properly. WhatsApp updates for other OS versions like Windows 7, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and iOS 6 were supported in 2016.
WhatsApp said that it will end support for ‘Nokia S40’ after December 2018. Also, the app will end support for Android OS 2.3.7 and older, after February 1, 2020.
There are the following Mobile OS that WhatsApp will stop working end of this year:
- Nokia Symbian S60 after June 30, 2017
- BlackBerry OS 10 after December 31, 2017
- Windows Phone 8.0 and older after December 31, 2017
- Nokia S40 after December 31, 2018
- Android Version 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020
